Samurai Guest Speakers

As part of the 7th grade curriculum about the Edo period in Japan, 7th grader Austin Halladay, accompanied by his mom (Sinee), had an opportunity to give a presentation to his classmates about the sport of Kendo.

Kendo traces its roots to traditional Japanese martial arts that arose from the samurai or warrior in feudal Japan.  Kendo helped to preserve the culture and swordsmanship of the samurai. Today it is practiced all over the world using bamboo swords (shinai) and bogu (armor).
