Several Bay Area students will benefit from Mrs. Bertko’s Science Educational expertise as she leads a "Fishing For the Future" workshop at this weekend's Expanding Your Horizons Conference -- Motivating Women in Science and Mathematics.
She will be doing a Seafood Watch lesson in which the students, as Marine Biologists, investigate the sustainability of various fishing practices on fish populations and ocean health.
An excerpt from the Workshop Registration Form:
Fishing for the Future
Be a Marine Biologist as you investigate sustainable fishing methods using a skittles model. You will move through several fishing seasons in different oceans as you learn about how technology, population growth and fishing practices contribute to the health of our oceans.
