Field Trip Chaperone/School Volunteer Procedures
Dear St. Finn Barr Parents,
As you know, St. Finn Barr Catholic School abides by the Archdiocese of San Francisco Shield the Vulnerable Program guidelines regarding all volunteers and chaperones.
For the 2015-2016 school year, one important change has been made to streamline our process and increase compliance -- all volunteers and chaperones will be required to complete the LiveScan (fingerprinting) option along with the online Shield the Vulnerable (STV) training course. This means that the $10 background check option no longer applies. This change will prevent volunteer clearance from expiring, as LiveScan clearance is constantly renewing and permanent.
*Even volunteers who are fingerprinted for their job must be livescanned through the Archdiocese, as SFB only has access to accounts cleared in this manner.
To complete this training, please register at www.shieldthevulnerable.org as an "employee," which will trigger the appropriate clearance. Then take the LiveScan form (also available on our school website, in the "parents" section) to a local UPS store for fingerprinting. Please submit your receipt to the school office for 50% reimbursement of funds.
Thank you so much for your support in ensuring a safe environment for all St. Finn Barr students.

Because parent volunteering is a fundamental part of our school functioning, all parents are required to complete the Protect Children Course (course 706) through the Shield The Vulnerable website at least once every three years.
1.) All chaperones/volunteers must be over the age of 21 (Drivers must be 25) and must complete the Protect Children Course online.
2.) All volunteers must clear a Live Scan fingerprinting (approx. $70, lasts forever)
3.) Livescan registrations must be initiated by first registering thought the Shield the Vulnerable Website.
4.) For driving field trips, all drivers must submit a copy of a valid driver’s license and insurance to the school office one week before the trip.
How to complete the Protect Children Course:
-Click on: Adults Click here (on the right side)
-Click on: First Time Sign Up/Adult Sign Up
-Under “Your Organization” choose Catholic Diocese
-Under “Select Catholic Diocese” choose San Francisco Archdiocese then click enter
- Identify yourself as an “Employee” (for the Live Scan)
***Do not identify yourself as “parent” if you intend to chaperone or volunteer –“parent” status will not trigger the necessary Live Scan.
-You will then be placed in the training course: Protect Children
- The course will take approximately 45 minutes, and it is available in English and Spanish.
-Finally, print out the page that says you have completed the program.
- Submit your certificate of completion to the school office
Take the Live Scan form to any UPS store for fingerprinting. Please submit your receipt to the school office for 50% reimbursement of the cost of Live Scan. The typical cost in its entirety is $70.
*Even volunteers who are fingerprinted for their job must be Live Scanned through the Archdiocese, as SFB only has access to accounts cleared in this manner.
We thank you for contributing to a safe school environment!
